Warranty, Maintenance and Installation

All products sold by SMAI have a 3 month manufacturing warranty that covers the structural integrity of the product (this excludes clearance items). If your product turns out to be faulty or damaged, SMAI will warrant the issue unless (but not limited to):

The damage is due to normal wear and tear
The product has not been used for its original intended purpose
Due to misuse
The product has been installed/assembled incorrectly
It is no longer within the warranty period
The product has been stored incorrectly
You do not have proof of purchase

We will rectify, repair, replace or refund at our discretion depending on the most suitable course of action. To make a claim please click on the following link, SMAI Claim Form. Once the form is completed please send it to sales@smai.com.au, with any other details you feel would help speed up the process and we will contact you within 3 working days.

Warranty
Barbells
The SMAI 15kg/20kg Premium barbell and SMAI 15kg/20kg Economy barbells are warranted for any manufacturing faults affecting their structural integrity. This warranty is valid for the life of the bar so long as the barbell’s end caps are straight and intact as well as falling within the category of what we consider to be “correctly maintained”. Both of the SMAI barbells have specific load ratings (2000lbs or 500lbs) and as such have been put through extensive testing to attain this rating. Therefore we have deemed any bars that are bent without returning to their original straight position are highly unlikely to be due to a manufacturing fault. In our experience bending is generally due to misuse of the bar. Some examples of misuse may include, but are not limited to:

Dropping unevenly onto spotting arms, a power rack or a box etc.
Dropping or hitting the bar’s end cap
Dropping an empty bar on the ground
Leaving the bar stored with weight plates on the collars
Dropping on the ground and one side of the bar hitting contacting the ground before the plates

However if you think your barbell has not been exposed to misuse and for some reason has become permanently bent, please fill out the SMAI claims form and carefully read over our Returns Policy. Please note that SMAI must consider the barbell to be of a maintained standard (click the link to read “a guide to barbell maintenance”) in order for us to warrant any claims.

If SMAI determines that the barbell is in warranty and the damage was due to a manufacturing fault, you will receive a store credit only of the price you paid for the barbell in question. You will not receive a replacement or refund and freight is a separate service therefore will not be covered in the store credit. If SMAI considers the barbell to be misused or badly maintained, we will not warrant the barbell and it will be your responsibility to pick up or organise the freight back (at your own cost). Please note the warranty for the life of the barbell does not include aesthetic appearance as this is the responsibility of the purchaser to maintain the quality by performing the steps outlined within “a guide to barbell maintenance”.

Maintenance
General maintenance of barbells is required to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the barbell and prevent rust from forming which is basically prevented by using a penetrative lubricant such as WD-40 over the metal surface and wiping dry with a clean dry cloth, factors such as use, moisture, location and storage environment will affect the frequency in which this basic maintenance should be performed. To remove chalk use a non-abrasive hard bristle brush to remove the chalk from the knurling and perform the basic maintenance as stated above and repeat as necessary. Refer to the “a guide to barbell maintenance” for more information.

Warranty
Kettle bells
SMAI Kettle Bells are manufactured within an acceptable weight tolerance of +/- 0.5%. Competition kettle bells are more accurate in their weight representation as they are manufactured by a Steel moulding process however the cast iron economy version kettle bells are manufactured from cast iron which is greater in variance as it has a simple manufacturing process hence the cheaper pricing point. Kettle bells are not designed to be thrown or dropped without controlled movement and SMAI will warrant the kettle bells against all manufacturing faults regarding the structure of the kettle bell and all manufacturing faults must be reported within 3 months of purchase.

Longevity of the outer cosmetic appearance can be prolonged by the used by correctly storing the bells on SMAI storage racks and use of the kettle bells on an appropriate surface such as SMAI Rubber Gym tiles. Incorrect use of the kettle bells, such as throwing, hitting together or using on a hard surface, may result in the products outer enamel/paint finish to get damaged. Cosmetic damage is not considered a warranty issue and will not be covered.

Maintenance
Maintenance for the handle section of the competition kettle bells is the responsibility of the user. Due to the fact that the competition kettle bell’s handle is manufactured from raw polished steel, acids in sweat may cause slight rust or pitting on the handle if the bells are stored for long periods of time without use. This should be removed using a gentle abrasive, cleaned with a penetrative lubricant such as WD-40 and wiped dry with a dry cloth to avoid rust.

Warranty
Dumbbells
Rubber hexagonal dumbbells are a great alternative to commercial dumbbells. This product is suitable for full time usage in a commercial environment. The rubber heads ensure low noise and protection for your floor, walls and equipment however it must be kept in mind that these are an economy solution and there is a weight tolerance of up to +/- 5%. This variance is quite common across all manufacturers and suppliers in the marketplace regardless of pricing or cosmetic variation and is not exclusive to SMAI Dumbbells.

SMAI Dumbbells ends are welded onto the handles for maximum life and safety however if used incorrectly (e.g. dropped from overhead repeatedly or used on a rigid surface) may cause the weighted heads to come loose and movement/play in the ends will become evident over long periods of use and in this case it is the responsibility of the user to discontinue use of the affected dumbbell and replace. SMAI warrants the dumbbells against any manufacturing fault (moulding, handle etc.) for a period of 3 months from date of invoice. Variance in weight is not considered a manufacturing fault as it is disclosed fully at the point of sale and in the product warranty.

Warranty
SMAI-FIT and XF related accessories
The SMAI-FIT range has been constructed for the purpose of functional strength training and have been over engineered to ensure that the materials and structural integrity of the frame can withstand heavy static loads and dynamic use in a commercial environment. Steel thickness is generally a minimum of 5mm which exceeds industry and CrossFit standards. SMAI warrants all related SMAI-FIT and XF coded accessories against any structural manufacturing faults. This includes the frame integrity for a period of 5 years from date of invoice and all welds for a period of 10 years from date of purchase (the warranty only applies so long as the rigging has been installed correctly).

The outer cosmetic finish of the frame (paint and powder coating) is not warranted against chips or scratches. SMAI considers these to be a wear and tear issue and this will not affect the structural integrity or functionality of the product whatsoever. Due to the nature of use with this product metal on metal contact may occur repeatedly and chip or scratch the outer surface without caution. Powder coating is designed to be used indoors and if placed outdoors or in contact with moisture for prolonged periods of time the material may develop surface rust. It is the responsibility of the user to maintain through cleaning with a penetrative lubricant such as WD-40 and wiped clean with a dry cloth.

Custom SMAI-FIT products that are made to order for specific permanent outdoor use are finished in a hot galvanised process and offers a 5 year warranty against rust for outdoor usage. Galvanised SMAI-FIT products are suitable for normal outdoor conditions this excludes direct coastal areas (within 10kms) in which salt and coastal weather conditions will affect the lifespan of the product deeming this warranty void. XF related storage racks and benches are covered by a manufacturing warranty against structural or manufacturing faults and must be reported within 60 days of purchase date. Upholstery is covered for a period of 12 months from date of purchase for manufacturing faults however misuse (rips or tears from improper usage, sharp objects etc.) will not be warranted.

Due to client’s special requirements and needs this will sometimes involve custom fabrication. All custom fabrications are warranted against structural faults under the normal SMAI-FIT warranty policy however custom fabrication cannot be returned or refunded as it is manufactured specifically for the custom frame setup and cannot be reused or on sold.

Warranty
Bumper plates
SMAI Bumper plates are manufactured to the highest quality standard and are suitable for commercial usage in a CrossFit gym as they have been tested to withstand 10,000 drops from overhead. Manufactured from Synthetic rubber with a maximum weight variance of +/- 10 grams, all bumper plates have an exact outer circumference of 450mm which corresponds with international standards and a centre hole diameter of 50.4mm in correspondence with the IWF requirements this ensures a nice fit without movement. Due to the hole being an exact size it is recommended that the bumpers be used only with SMAI or other high quality barbells that have been machined to a maximum collar diameter of 50mm as IWF standard. SMAI recommend that you measure your Olympic bar collars if you already have bars with digital callipers to ensure that your Olympic bar is suitable as SMAI will not refund bumper plates due to this fact arising as this is a Barbell fault.

Bumper plates are warranted for indoor use and must be used on a protective impact absorbing surface such as an Olympic lifting platform or SMAI Rubber Gym tiles at a minimum thickness of 8mm. They are not warranted for use on a rigid, uneven surface such as concrete, gravel etc. as this will void warranty. Misuse will not be warranted.

Warranty covers the structural integrity of the plate for a period of 12 months from date of invoice, if damage arises from misuse or negligence this would not be covered under the warranty.

Warranty
Custom Equipment/Gear
SMAI require a 50% deposit on custom equipment/gear which under no circumstances is refundable as the custom product is built to client specifications and sizing with custom branding not suitable for resale to any third party. The remaining balance plus local freight charges are required to be paid as soon as the goods are ready for local dispatch. We will not exchange any custom orders unless there is a manufacturing fault. It is the customer’s responsibility to:

Supply artwork showing the layout and position of your logo
Supply Pantone value
Supply detailed size specifications
Archive their artwork (logos and layout)
Proof all artwork

SMAI does not take any responsibility for any mistake in the artwork once final proof has been confirmed and deposit has been received. All artwork must be a vector based graphic that can be edited in Adobe Illustrator. SMAI has the right to alter these terms and conditions at any time.

Warranty
SMAI Punch Master
The SMAI Punch Master should remain stationary at all times especially whilst punching - the bag is not designed to be tilted or bent as the core is plastic. The SMAI Punch Master does not have a flexible centre. The top cannot be removed and used as a ground and pound bag. If the bag is tilted on the side for training or rolled away for storage the base will break. Moving of the punch master when filled with either sand or water is a two man operation. Please take care when lifting or relocating punch master.

The SMAI Punch Master is predominantly used and recommended as a light weight hitting and sparring target with the use of protective hand gear. No jewellery, weaponry or any sharp object should be used on the product as it may cause severe wear and possible serration to the top. Misuse of the product will not be covered by warranty. The previous guidelines stipulated by SMAI should be understood and followed precisely as the product is only covered by a 1 month manufacturer’s flaw warranty. This means any common flaw found in the product that has been acknowledged by the manufacturer will be under warranty.

Warranty
Core Bags
SMAI Core Bags are covered for a period of 6 months from the date of purchase for any manufacturing fault. The warranty only covers the integrity of the outer vinyl shell of the product and stitching and will not warrant damages due to misuse. This product is designed to be used as a weighted functional training tool and is not designed to be used as a hammer, throwing or slamming implement. Using the product on a rough surface such as concrete or bitumen will also reduce the life of the product and not be warranted. The weight of the product is made up through the filling with clean pebbles and is not exact with an acceptable variation of +/- 5% of the marked weight. Slamming the product will also displace the centre of the weight causing the weight to be slightly imbalanced which is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.

Warranty
Slam Balls
SMAI Slam Balls have been designed for slamming use on suitable surface such as gym tiles, EVA jigsaw mats, stall mats or turf. They are not made to be used on rigid and abrasive surfaces as this will cause the outer cover to degrade and significantly shorten the life of the product. The SMAI Slam Balls are covered by a 6 month “Commercial use” manufacturing warranty for the structural integrity of the ball against a manufacturing fault. The warranty does not cover the valve or surrounding ring as this area is susceptible to cracking when repeatedly slammed upon. The manufacturing warranty will be voided due to the following:

Normal wear and tear
Use on abrasive or uneven surfaces
Slamming directly on the valve side
Any use outside of what the slam ball has originally been created for.

Warranty
Medicine Ball

SMAI Medicine Ball has been designed with a strong rubber shell for durability use on suitable surface such as gym tiles, EVA jigsaw mats, stall mats or turf. They are not made to be used on rigid and abrasive surfaces as this will cause the outer cover to degrade and significantly shorten the life of the product. SMAI Medicine Ball are not to be slammed. The SMAI Medicine Ball is covered by a 6 month “Commercial use” manufacturing warranty for the structural integrity of the ball against a manufacturing fault. The manufacturing warranty will be voided due to the following:

Normal wear and tear
Use on abrasive or uneven surfaces
Slamming
Any use outside of what the Medicine Ball has originally been created for.

Warranty
SMAI Wall Balls
SMAI Wall Balls are constructed to a very high standard and are weight balanced using the best possible materials for commercial use. The wall balls have a manufacturing warranty for the structural integrity of the ball if it is used on a non-abrasive surface and has not been slammed. This warranty covers the item for a period of 6 months from date of purchase and will be replaced during this period if it is deemed to be a manufacturing fault and the ball was not misused. SMAI Wall Balls are not designed to be used on any abrasive surfaces as this will wear the vinyl on the seams and cause the ball to fail. We recommend for the wall balls to be used in conjunction with our SMAI Wall Ball targets or on a wall surface that has been painted to give it a smooth non-abrasive finish. Use on abrasive surfaces or slamming of the balls will void the warranty.

Warranty
Battle Ropes/Climbing Ropes
SMAI Battle Ropes are available in three different materials

Natural Sisal
Synthetic PP material (covered in a red nylon)
Jute (covered in black rip-stop vinyl)

The Sisal material is a natural fibre and it will lose particles/fibres which can make a small mess within your gym this is considered normal as it is the nature of the product and is not a problem if used in an outdoor environment.

PP rope is a synthetic fibre and in the climbing rope it may fray over time (no structural fault just cosmetic fluff) this is why we have protected it with a durable nylon cover in order to stop any fluff or fraying from occurring over prolonged use on concrete. The cover may deteriorate in which it is considered wear and tear and not covered by the SMAI manufacturer’s warranty.

Jute is a natural fibre and it will lose particles/fibres which can make a small mess within your gym, this is why we have protected it with a rip-stop vinyl cover. The cover is capable made for in an outdoor environment because it can easily be cleaned/wiped down.

The need to repair the Battle rope grip ends is not considered a manufacturing fault as it can be easily rectified and will not affect the life or use of the rope. None of the battle ropes are recommended for use on abrasive surfaces and by doing so will void your warranty due to misuse. In the event that the rope has a manufacturing fault it is covered by our manufacturer’s warranty for a period of 3 months from date of invoice, misuse will not be warranted.

Maintenance
The ends of each rope are sealed and covered in a plastic coating. In some cases due to heavy use the plastic coating can become dislodged which can easily be rectified by reinserting the coating onto the rope and affixing the hose clamp provided onto the top of the plastic coating. Ensure to secure the clamp and cover with electrical tape.

SMAI Rubber Jigsaw Gym Tiles
SMAI Gym Jigsaw Rubber Tiles are an impact absorbing option, constructed of recycled rubber from car tyres and a mixture of EPDM fleck for an attractive colourful finish. The tiles are bound with a Non Toxic MDI (Polyurethane) binder for your safety and tested and approved to ASISO9239.1-2003 Part 1 to meet the BCA (Building code of Australia) requirements. SMAI Gym Jigsaw Rubber Tiles are suitable for areas with heavy weight impact and high traffic such as Gyms, PT studios, CrossFit Boxes and any area indoor or outdoor requiring a protective, durable, non-slip commercial flooring solution for weight training.

SMAI Gym Jigsaw Rubber Tiles have a warranty for any manufacturing faults for up to 12 months from the date of purchase, anything after this time would be considered normal wear and tear issue. If for some reason during the warranted period your gym tiles deteriorate abnormally, images of the proposed damage are required to be supplied for inspection. With these images SMAI will determine whether the damage is the cause of a manufacturing fault or misuse (in some cases SMAI may require the item to be returned for further inspection before a decision can be made). In the event the product damage is deemed to be caused by a manufacturing fault, a replacement of the damaged item will be supplied (shipping expenses will be at the cost of the customer). Damage caused by misuse will not be warranted, misuse would be anything considered to be (but not limited to) the following:

Burns, cuts, accident, vandalism, abuse, negligence, sweat
Damage caused by incorrect installation
Use of incorrect chemicals, herbicides or pesticides
Use of incorrect cleaning methods
Use of in-fill products of an incorrect grade or level
Normal wear and tear
Abrasions due to use of inappropriate footwear or sports equipment

(Note: High traffic areas are more susceptible to wear and tear and therefore need more attention when it comes to maintenance)

Maintenance and Care

SMAI Rubber Gym Mats can be easily cleaned using a vacuum cleaner and finished with a damp mop using a PH Neutral detergent solution. If the tiles move for some reason and gaps develop between the tiles it is recommended that the gap be filled with black silicone/Gap filler available from leading hardware stores or to lay with double sided tape underneath when first installing.
Please ensure that appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is used in order to reduce the risk of injuries related to installation of the flooring.

Installation
1. SMAI Rubber Gym Tiles are suitable to be laid manually by any person without expert knowledge as they can simply be laid out tightly over the floor surface area and the weight of the tile itself will hold them in position. For a professional finish please follow the steps below:
2. Make sure that your laying surface is flat, level and clean prior to starting
3. Choose a large straight wall to begin: it is recommended that you choose the largest wall side of the area as this will make the job significantly easier and faster.
4. Continue to tile row after row in a pattern that suits your requirement (either straight rows or a staggered Brick style pattern) depending on your preference as straight rows require significantly less cutting than a brick style pattern.
5. Continue laying until you reach the extreme side of the room, lay the final mat into position and mark the length/width for cutting using a sharp Stanley knife or reciprocating saw.
6. Edge mats such as those in front of a roller door must be stuck down permanently with adhesive or double sided tape as they may move and cause tripping hazards. If you finish the mats on an area other than a wall it is also recommended that the last row be affixed using double sided tape.
7. If you are concerned about the overall finish of the floor and you are not confident in your installation skills there are many Builders or flooring contractors that can be consulted for installation purposes.

Warranty
EVA Jigsaw Mats
SMAI EVA Jigsaw Mats are the premium closed cell EVA jigsaw mats available in the market. They have been successfully meeting the demands of the Martial Arts market for over 25 years. Industry thickness trends are as follows:

Karate, boxing and kickboxing: 20mm thickness is sufficient
For styles involving grappling or Ground work 30mm or 40mm would be suitable as they have been tested to Australian Standards AS/NZS 4422:1996 (Amdt 1/1999) for a greater Critical fall height and level of impact absorption.

All SMAI EVA Jigsaw Mats are produced 100% Free of Toxic Formamide which can be found in cheap, lower quality mats in the marketplace. SMAI EVA Jigsaw Mats have a universal fitting system unique to SMAI which allows the user to reverse the colour of any single tile in an arrangement irrespective of the other tiles which allows you the freedom of not only a quick installation but also the freedom to change your pattern (colour arrangement) quickly and easily as the mats are all double colour in design.

Wacoku mat design logs can be reversed (used on both sides) however unlike the universal design of the most recent Jigsaw mats we offer, the entire mat has to be turned over in order to have the opposite side showing. The mats are also solid in colour and are not reversible in colour. Quality and density between both models of mats are the exact same only the fitting pattern (Jigsaw Logs) and surface pattern (finish) are different. The safety level is in relation to the mat’s thickness, with 40mm having the safest critical fall height result.

SMAI EVA Jigsaw mats have a warranty for any manufacturing faults for up to 12 months from the date of purchase, anything after this time would be considered normal wear and tear issue. If for some reason during the warranted period your jigsaw mats deteriorate abnormally, images of the proposed damage are required to be supplied for inspection. With these images SMAI will determine whether the damage is the cause of a manufacturing fault or misuse (in some cases SMAI may require the item to be returned for further inspection before a decision can be made). Damage caused by incorrect installation
Use of incorrect chemicals or pesticides
Use of incorrect cleaning methods
Use of in-fill products of an incorrect grade or level
Normal wear and tear (including loss of elasticity at the joins from lifting and interchanging over time)
Abrasions/indentations due to use of inappropriate footwear or sports equipment

(Note: Jigsaw mats due to the density and materials may expand or contract slightly in areas with temperature variance or radiant heat source. This will not affect the safety or functionality of the mat but it will cause slight permanent change to the size of the mat over time which is mainly evident in the thinner mats such as the 20mm models. This may affect you later down the track when trying to add new mats to your already existing ones due to slight size variation in the jigsaw pattern)

Maintenance and Care
Clean mats with a warm damp mop using a PH neutral disinfectant. Do not place heavy objects on the mats as this will cause a permanent indentation on the surface area of the mat, Sharp or blunt objects will damage and puncture the mat surface. It is also recommended that shoes not be worn on the mats as the rubber on the shoes will scratch and scuff the surface of the mat and cause cosmetic damage.

Installation
-The SMAI Reversible Jigsaw Mats have a universal fitting system unique to SMAI which allows the user to reverse the colour of any single tile in an arrangement irrespective of the other tiles. This allows you the freedom of not only a quick installation but also the freedom to change your pattern (colour arrangement) quickly and easily. SMAI Reversible Jigsaw Mats are all double coloured in design so for example if you have a room 200m2 that you need matted you can simply order 200 of the Blue/Red SMAI mat and mat out the space with a colour pattern such as a blue fight area with a red border at your discretion.

-Wacoku range of reversible mats are part of our original mat designs and as a result the fitting (log) system is the old style directional system: With the mats being solid in colour you will need to calculate your floor correctly before ordering. For example if you want to build a fight area you would need to calculate the quantity of mats you would need for the inner area along with calculate the quantity needed for the border around your fight area.

Make sure that your surface area is levelled and clean
For the best result unpack your mats and leave them in the area in which they will be installed for a few days so they adjust to the environment as EVA material has the tendency to expand or contract depending on the temperature of the area (this is only evident in the 20mm thickness matting)
Start your pattern from the corner and arrange the mats in the pattern you desire (preferred colour facing upwards) and remove the edging from the mats as needed.
Cut the mats around any obstructions.
Finish off the outer border with the edging
After a few weeks you may need additional cuts if the mats have expansion issues in order to relieve the pressure and return the mats to a flat position (only applicable with 20mm model)
When installed the mats have a slippery protective finish on the outside of the mat this will gradually wear off or can be removed through following the cleaning procedure.

SMAI Stall Mats
SMAI Stall Mats are an industrial flooring option designed originally for stables and equestrian use however due to the popularity of CrossFit and increased use of Chalk within gyms, people are seeing the benefits of the stall mats as a durable, Commercial, easy to clean and virtually indestructible alternative to the SMAI Gym Rubber Mats for indoor and outdoor usage. SMAI Stall Mats are manufactured from new unused Rubber giving them an increased density to the traditional Gym tile and each unit weighs approximately
